As physical therapists (PTs), we care deeply about our patients. In this post we will discuss 4 things we want our patients (and future patients!) to know to help them reach their rehab goals.
You don't need a doctor's referral to see a PT.
In North Carolina, you don’t need prior authorization to see a PT. Physical therapists are known as one of the top musculoskeletal experts in the healthcare industry. Whether you’re suffering from an acute injury, chronic pain, or looking for preventative care/improved sports performance, you can schedule an appointment with us directly!
2. Prevention is easier than rehabilitation.
Benjamin Franklin was right when he said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” At your PT visit we can assess and treat musculoskeletal impairments that could potentially increase your risk of injury in the future. This can not only save you from the pain of an injury but also save you lots of money in healthcare expenses.
3. We don't give you that home exercise program (HEP) to just "give you homework."
A HEP is a crucial part of your treatment. Typically you won’t see your PT more than once or twice a week, but your body needs frequency of treatment (cue in that HEP) to make lasting changes. Being consistent with your HEP will help you recover faster and equip you with the tools you need to help yourself in the future.
4. Your opinion MATTERS when developing your treatment plan.
The best physical therapy takes on a team-based approach. The whole point of PT is to help YOU reach YOUR goals. To get the most out of your PT journey, it’s crucial to share your opinions, treatment preferences, goals, etc. with your PT so you can work together to come up with the best individualized plan for you.
